Milia skin

The colloid milia is a disease divided into 2 types: the shape of the adult and child. In the adult form, the lesions occur on exposed areas and are affected by solar UV rays. In the juvenile form, the lesions appear before puberty on a normal skin without alterations of elastic fibers suggesting other pathogenic hypotheses:

  • hereditary degeneration after their exposure to UV.
  • Neogenesis colloid from fibroblasts transformed by UV.

Nine cases of juvenile colloid milia were collected in the literature, all with an early pre-pubertal and damage of the face with a predominance of lesions around the nose. Family history was noted in 3 cases suggesting an autosomal recessive. Whatever the pathophysiological mechanism, the role of UV inducer seems important. This condition is benign but unsightly , the treatment is simple and involves the removal of the papules (incisions, electrocoagulation).

In conclusion, juvenile colloid milia is a distinct, clinically and histologically condition that differ from colloid milia in adults. In half the cases, a family history is found and in most cases, an exacerbation after sun exposure is noted. It postulates that a defect is responsible for hereditary degeneration keratinocytaire after sun exposure.
